Training Officer - Charleston County EMS

Charleston County EMS is seeking an experienced paramedic and educator for the role of Training Officer. This position serves as the primary educator for the department and oversees a staff of two Assistant Training Officers. Primary responsibilities include the organization, implementation and oversight of training, recertification's, QA/QI and employee development processes.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $55,723 - $75,795

Duties and Responsibilities
Candidates must also be familiar with EMS operations, EMS procedures, EMS training, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Outlook. Necessary skills include ability to multi-task, prioritize, coordinate, train and engender a spirit of cooperation.  The candidate should be detail-oriented and possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills, as well as organizational and planning skills. The ideal candidate with also have experience with high-fidelity simulation and telehealth applications. The person in this position supervises two (2) Assistant Training Officers along with providing staff support for EMS administration, as well as for a variety of working groups in Charleston County EMS.

In addition to the above, duties include:  evaluating capabilities and needs of CCEMS; providing research and input on all training standards. Additional duties include coordinating, scheduling and conducting meetings and training sessions, preparing agendas for discussion, and researching and compiling information necessary to make decisions regarding training.

Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for this position, the candidate should have a Bachelor or Master's Degree plus at least five (5) years' of progressive management and training experience in a 911 system.  An Associate's Degree in a related field plus at least seven (7) years' of progressive management and training experience in a 911 system  or nine (9) years' of progressive management and training experience may be substituted for the degree requirement above.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates must meet requirements for SC DHEC CEP Training Officer and Advanced EMS Instructorships. Candidates must have the following

Required Certifications:

  • National Registry Paramedic
  • SC DHEC Certified Paramedic by start date
  • AHA or ASHI ACLS Provider and Instructor
  • AHA or ASHI BLS Provider and Instructor
  • ITLS or NAEMT PHTLS Provider and Instructor
  • PEPP, PALS or EPC Provider and Instructor
  • ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 702, 703, 706, 775 and 800
  • NHTSA or NAEMSE 40-hour Instructor Methodology (or equivalent)
